From 4/8/2017 at our Diagnostic Center at Aigio we accept referral E.OP.Y.Y. for Digital – Digitized Mammography
Mammography (simple, digitized or digital) remains, despite the great technological advancement in the field of radiology, the method of choice in the early diagnosis of breast cancer. Its ability is due to the detection of microcalcifications in the breast, which in several cases indicate an early stage of cancer, clinically undetectable yet.
Mammography should normally be done in the first 10 days of the cycle, when the mammary glands are not bombarded with estrogen. Nowadays Mammography must be done after the age of 40, every year, until the age of 70. The control can be even more sparse (every 2 years). There are, of course, limitations in mammography, as in any other radiological method, and the main limitation is the dense breasts (usually in a young woman) which may conceal an existing pathology. Also, false results can be obtained in case of surgical scars, multifocal breast neoplasms and breast inflammations. In general, every woman – especially a young one – should keep in mind that often a mammogram is not enough.
The breast requires the following diagnostic access:
- Palpation by a specialist
- Self-palpation at regular intervals (once a month)
- Mammography per year
- Additional examination by U / S in dense glands
- Magnetic mammography in special cases
Mammography is a test that now burdens the patient with very small doses of radiation and this is due to technological progress.
